TOUR OVERVIEW
When a Man Loves a Woman - Mustang Sally - Brown Sugar - Old Time Rock and Roll - Sweet Home Alabama... and the list goes on and on! What do these smash hit records have in common? They were all recorded in The Shoals. Back in the 1960's and 1970's, this unassuming part of the American south burst forth with creative magic. During a time of segregation and Jim Crow, forward-thinking local songwriters, record producers, musicians, and artists broke the norms and turned this small-town Alabama area into a global recording epicenter.
Come feel the energy of The Shoals for yourself. Travel south from Nashville and learn the history of the land, the people, and their connection to the Tennessee River. Take a guided tour of the meticulously restored Muscle Shoals Sound Studio on Jackson Highway in Sheffield, where stories of legendary artists like Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Rolling Stones have never left the building. Try a local favorite lunch spot on North Court Street in Florence. Then visit the Alabama Music Hall of Fame for a self-guided tour. You'll be amazed at the talent you never knew came from the Yellowhammer state.
Your day continues with a guided tour of FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, where producer / icon Rick Hall put his name and others like Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin on the musical map. Take some time to drive past fascinating local landmarks like the Helen Keller Birthplace, Florence Indian Mound, Frank Lloyd Wright Rosenbaum House, WC Handy Birthplace, and Wilson Dam. Spend a fun evening pairing great food with local live music at Swamper's Bar & Grille or FloBama. Or if you prefer, fine dine with the most spectacular view around at 360 Grille. Return to Nashville that night, taking a bit of that Muscle Shoals magic home with you.
